3D CAC Supporting a Safer and Healthier DC

Our Ongoing Commitment to Public Safety and Community Health

Bill 25-692: Expanding Mental Health and Public Safety Protections

This bill broadens the scope of qualified healthcare professionals, empowering Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioners to initiate mental health crisis interventions and provide specialized assessments. It also mandates online training modules for healthcare providers and community members, ensuring more responsive mental health care. In our testimony, we emphasized the urgent need for a 24/7 mental health facility that would offer round-the-clock support for those most vulnerable, relieving community burdens and promoting long-term recovery.

Bill 25-715: Community Crime Prevention and Youth Safety Program

By investing in youth mentorship, skill-building, and engagement programs, this legislation prioritizes crime prevention by empowering the next generation. With our Task Force’s School and University Outreach Programs, we’ve seen how early intervention can transform lives. We urge the Council to pass this bill to support youth-focused initiatives that help prevent crime before it begins, building a safer future for young people across DC.

Bill 25-703: Enhanced Protection for High-Traffic Areas

Focused on safeguarding school zones, business districts, and residential neighborhoods, this bill strengthens penalties for disorderly conduct and other disruptive behaviors. We strongly support this legislation to protect the spaces where students, families, and workers gather every day, ensuring peace in high-traffic areas across the District. Our Task Force’s targeted patrols and rapid response initiatives will gain critical support with this bill’s protections in place.

Bill 25-710: Allocation for Drug Abuse Prevention Facilities

This legislation proposes establishing a dedicated 24/7 mental health and drug abuse prevention facility, ensuring ongoing support for individuals in need. In our advocacy, we highlighted the need for comprehensive addiction resources, including long-term recovery programs that address the root causes of addiction and provide vital mental health interventions for public safety and individual well-being.

Bill 25-245: Public Safety and Crime Reduction through Expanded Gun Violence Intervention Programs

This bill tackles the urgent issue of gun violence by expanding intervention programs that address its root causes, creating safer neighborhoods for all. We have seen firsthand the toll that gun violence takes on our communities, and we fully support this public health approach. By dedicating resources to prevention, we can help create a safer environment where residents can live, work, and play without fear.

Bill 25-918: Increased Protections and Training for First Responders and Healthcare Workers

This bill provides essential protections and training for those who respond to mental health crises and public emergencies. Supporting this legislation aligns with our advocacy for improved community safety and training. By equipping healthcare providers and first responders with the necessary resources and protections, we strengthen our entire community’s resilience.

Through our 3D CAC Public Safety Initiatives, we continue to lead initiatives that proactively address safety and quality of life issues across the District. From community outreach programs and enhanced patrols to mental health referrals and business coordination, we are committed to protecting our neighborhoods and strengthening partnerships for long-term solutions.
