3D CAC Public Safety Leaders Meetings are in-depth discussions with MPD, Public Safety Interested Community Members, Council Members, DC Agency Heads, and Business industry experts who provide insights and guide a collaborative, results-oriented dialogue focusing on creating real, actionable solutions for Our Community.
In our 3D CAC Advocacy and Social Justice and Public Safety efforts, we work towards promoting policies that promote equality, justice and public safety, and the well-being of all community members in Washington, DC. We advocate for social change, address systemic inequalities, and work towards creating a safer and more inclusive community for everyone.
3D CAC’S Public Safety practices and services helps to prevent violence by setting focused and strategic enforcement priorities, advocating for policies and supporting legislation, creating educational initiatives, fostering ongoing prevention strategies and effective deterrence methods, enforcement collaboration with law enforcement, and supporting legal efforts while measuring the results.
3D CAC is located in the 3rd Police District of Washington, DC and the Chair is charged with providing the 3rd District Commander with a Community Action Plan and recommendations from the community on the public’s safety problems and police service needs.
3D CAC hosts Regular Public Safety Leaders Meetings at the Third District MPD Police Station on the last Thursday of each month which allows residents, DC Agencies, Elected Leaders and Business Owners to meet and discuss police-related issues with the district commander. The meetings also provide an opportunity for police officials to assess the impact of their crime-fighting efforts on the community.
In addition to the 3D CAC Public Safety Leaders Meetings the 3D CAC Chair is on the Chief of Police’s Citizens Advisory Council and provides the Chief of Police with input and advice on matters affecting the entire Department.
3D CAC’s goal is to make our city a safer place for all us to live, work and visit.

We’re excited to bring you the latest updates on the crucial work of our 3D CAC Teams – the 3D CAC Legislative Team and the 3D CAC Public Safety Task Force Team as we continue our mission for a safer, more peaceful community. This season, we’ve experienced an eventful election, and we are steadfast in fighting for the best public safety outcomes for our neighborhoods. We look forward to our newly elected leaders joining us,ready to roll up their sleeves and stand with us in making every corner of our community safer.
Recently, we sent impactful letters to DC officials,emphasizing the urgent need to address public disturbances, enhance crime prevention, and establish a 24/7 mental health facility focused on both drug abuse prevention and oversight. Through our recent 3D MPD CAC Public Safety Task Force meetings, we’re making significant strides in partnership with our DCCity Council Members and DC Agency Partners, working to strengthen safety mechanisms for our schools, businesses, residents, and especially our young students.
With these continued efforts, we are laying the foundation for safer spaces where all can live, work, and thrive in the District. Thank You for your unwavering support and commitment to this shared mission!
A Fine Salute To Our Veterans
As we reflect on our 3rd District community’s accomplishments, we also take a moment to celebrate the incredible men and women of Our 3rd District Neighborhoods and the Officers of the 3rd District Metropolitan Police Department who have not only served our neighborhoods but also our country. On Veterans Day, we proudly honored our veterans for their dedication to our nation and their continued commitment to the safety and well-being of our community.
To all those who have served, we extend our heartfelt gratitude for your sacrifice, your strength, and your unwavering dedication. We Are proud of you and to have the honor of working beside you. Veterans yourexample continues to inspire our mission for a safer, more unified community.
3D MPD CAC Public Safety Taskforce Updates
We are excited to share the latest progress and impactful efforts of the 3D CAC Public Safety Task Forces, as we join together to create safer, more secure, and vibrant neighborhoods. Through targeted advocacy and strategic action, we’ve made meaningful strides toward legislative and administrative changes that directly enhance public safety and uplift the quality of life for our entire community.
Here is a summary of our recent accomplishments In particular, we have been responsive to the specific safety concerns raised by business owners, residents and schools. Here are some highlights of our ongoing advocacy and action:
- Targeted Public Safety Measures for T Street/Shaw, Mount Pleasant /Columbia Heights, U Street/Logan Circle Residential and Business Districts: In response to concerns from residents, schools’, business owners, we have advocated for stronger MPD presence to prevent disruptive behaviors affecting businesses and patrons. Enhanced MPD patrols, especially during peak hours, aim to maintain a safe, welcoming environment for all. Designated MPD Drug Free Zones with improved outcomes,
- Public Safety Planning for Cleveland Elementary School, T Street/Shaw and Surrounding Areas: Our task force has engaged with Cleveland Elementary School and the broader T Street/Shaw area to improve safety for students, staff, and the public. We are advocating for an updated school safety plan, clearer drug free zone and roadway signage, dedicated drop-off zones, additional lighting, rodent abatement, in school general services, and consistent MPD patrols to ensure safer streets for all.
- Interagency Collaboration with Deputy Mayor of Public Safety, Wards 1 and 2 Councilmembers, DDOT, and Clean Streets, MOCRS, and ANC’s: In cooperation with multiple agencies, we are focused on keeping sidewalks clean and welcoming in high-traffic areas, including Mount Pleasant, T Street/Shaw, U Street and surrounding business corridors. Power washing sidewalks and improving street cleanliness have been a priority in our work with Clean Streets and DDOT, ensuring that public spaces support thriving businesses. We have advocated for consistent results and accountability for the provided city services.
- Strengthened Nuisance Property Legislation: We have Advocated with our DC City Councilmembers for stricter laws to hold property owners accountable for recurrent illegal activities on their premises vacant or occupied and to make the building entrances safer secured at all times for residents.
- MPD Drug-Free Zones with Enhanced Monitoring: Our collaboration with the Deputy Mayor’s Office and MPD has resulted in Drug-Free Zone signage and work on the strategic placement of MPD cameras, particularly around open-air markets and known high-risk areas. By reinforcing these zones with signage and monitoring, we aim to deter illicit activities that negatively impact businesses and community spaces.
- Enhanced Enforcement of Drug Trafficking and Nuisance Property Laws Increased MPD Patrols and Targeted Operations in Key Neighborhoods: We have successfully advocated for increased patrols in high-concern areas and for targeted actions in high-risk drug trafficking zones such as T Street/Shaw, LeDroit Park, Mount Pleasant, U Street, Logan Circle, 14th & P Street, North Capitol Street, and the 700 Block of Gresham Place. These patrols provide visibility, deter crime, and reinforce partnerships with our community members and businesses.
- Improved Collaboration Between Schools, Businesses, and Community Organizations Neighborhood Action Plans: Initiated plans with input from residents, schools, universities, businesses, and faith organizations to tackle neighborhood-specific challenges. Expanded Mental Health Outreach: Worked with the Department of Behavioral Health to bring mental health support to at-risk individuals in high-need areas. Enhanced Training for Public Safety Personnel: Ensured 3D CAC public safety ambassadors received ongoing training in de-escalation, crisis management, and community engagement.
Our collective efforts reflect a commitment to creating safer, more vibrant spaces for residents and businesses alike. We encourage all registered community members and business owners to attend our 3D CAC Public Safety Task Force meetings and share feedback to help us drive positive change across the3rd District.

Join the 3D CAC MPD Public Safety Neighborhood Task Force
We invite you to join your neighbors who have been making incremental changes in the problem areas in their neighborhoods. The 3D CAC Public Safety Task Forces work with the Mayor’s Office, DC Agency Partners and DC City Council representatives to address ongoing issues and provide oversight on how resources are being provided to the areas of concern. We meet with action plans to see that our neighborhoods receive credible cures to matters that often slip through the cracks.
We’re looking for fresh community member input in these current working groups:
